Brachytherapy

Brachytherapy is an advanced form of targeted internal radiation therapy that places a sealed radioactive source directly inside or immediately adjacent to the tumor.

Utilizing the state-of-the-art Varian GammaMed™ system, this highly precise technique allows our oncologists to deliver a highly concentrated dose of radiation directly to the cancerous tissue. Because the radiation source is placed so closely to the target, it severely limits the radiation exposure to surrounding healthy organs, leading to fewer side effects and superior clinical outcomes.

The Patient Journey

1

Evaluation

Your oncologist will determine if brachytherapy is the most effective approach for your specific tumor type.

2

Applicator Placement

Under mild sedation, a specialized applicator is placed directly into or near the tumor site.

3

Radiation Delivery

The radioactive source is temporarily guided into the applicator to deliver the dose, then removed.

4

Recovery

Since it is minimally invasive, you can often return to normal activities within a day or two.
